COVID-19 cases reaching highest level in over a year | 7 News Australia

COVID-19 cases are at a higher level than last year’s winter peak, as Sydney approaches levels not seen since December 2022.

The new strain, JN.1, is said to be like the flu so doctors advise if you are under 50 and healthy, there is no urgent need for a booster.

However, it is recommended you top up if you haven’t had one for more than 12 months.

“The message to the community is to take those sensible precautions. We’re asking that people that have respiratory symptoms, be it COVID or be it other respiratory viruses, do take those simple precautions of staying at home, choosing to not go to crowded indoor settings. And please don’t visit aged care facilities and hospitals or other vulnerable individuals whilst you’ve got symptoms.” – Dr Kerry Chant, NSW Chief Health Officer.
