Coronavirus: Warnings from officials as some provinces begin to relax restrictions

Despite the threat of highly contagious variants, some Canadian provinces are easing restrictions as daily new COVID-19 cases decrease.

In a series of tweets Monday, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam warned of the new, more transmissible coronavirus variants that are “gaining ground” in Canada. She said all Canadians must do “our utmost to prevent opportunities for them to spread.”

Plus, Quebec reported its lowest daily infection count in weeks on Monday and after a six-week lockdown, some non-essential businesses in the province are being allowed to reopen. But as Amanda Jelowicki reports, Premier François Legault admits the move is a gamble.
