Clout was een Zuid-Afrikaanse rockband bestaande uit vijf vrouwen. Ze waren actief tussen 1977 en 1981 en scoorden voornamelijk met covers; hun grootste hit was Substitute.
Ze debuteerden met hun versie van Russ Ballards Since You’ve Been Gone.
Substitute was een cover van een onbekend nummer van de Righteous Brothers. In Nederland was de plaat op donderdag 6 april 1978 TROS Paradeplaat op Hilversum 3 en werd mede hierdoor een gigantische hit in de destijds drie hitlijsten op de nationale popzender. De plaat bereikte de 4e positie in de op 1 juni 1978 gestarte TROS Top 50. In de Nederlandse Top 40 en de Nationale Hitparade bereikte de plaat de 2e positie. In de op Hemelvaartsdag 1976 gestarte Europese hitlijst op Hilversum 3, de TROS Europarade, werd eveneens de 4e positie bereikt.
In België bereikte de plaat in juni 1978 de nummer 1-positie in de Vlaamse Radio 2 Top 30 en de 2e positie in de Vlaamse Ultratop 50.

Clout was a South African rock band consisting of five women. They were active between 1977 and 1981 and mainly scored with covers; their biggest hit was Substitute.
They debuted with their version of Russ Ballard’s Since You’ve Been Gone.
Substitute was a cover of an unknown song by the Righteous Brothers. In the Netherlands, the record was on TROS Parade album on Hilversum 3 on Thursday April 6, 1978 and partly because of this it became a gigantic hit in the three hit charts on the national pop channel at the time. The record reached 4th position in the TROS Top 50, which started on June 1, 1978. The record reached 2nd position in the Dutch Top 40 and the National Hit Parade. The European hit list at Hilversum 3, the TROS Europarade, which started on Ascension Day 1976, also reached 4th position.
In Belgium, the record reached the number 1 position in the Flemish Radio 2 Top 30 in June 1978 and the 2nd position in the Flemish Ultratop 50.
