In a blog post posted by the company this Thursday Microsoft revealed more info regarding the new, affordable version of their Office productivity software, which will launch in the coming months. Microsoft stressed that although the main focus of its efforts remains its subscription service, Microsoft 365, it will also launch Office as a an one-time purchase option for customers who aren’t yet prepared to migrate to a cloud-based infrastructure.
Office will come with two different versions, one designed for commercial users , dubbed Office LTSC (which is a reference to the word “long” in Term Service Channel) and another intended for personal use. Office LTSC will come with improved accessibility options, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint performance enhancements as well as visual enhancements such as the support for dark modes across all apps. It is designed for specific scenarios, and not for the entire company like control devices for processes in the manufacturing process which aren’t accessible via the Internet.
